An artistic depiction of the “Fall of the Oldhalls.” During the Yerlyaruiwo-Tralyeaeawi War, the upstart Hwaiuira clan maneuvered the much more powerful Uawairlew (Oldhall) clan into accepting a ritual war with terms that favored the cunning Hwaiuira. The defeated Uawairlew subsequently relinquished their seat on the Tlaukhu council to the Hwaiuira, who then became known as the Hlyueawi (Cleverman) clan.
The Aslan Hierate, my latest book for Mongoose Traveller, is now available in PDF and pre-order, with hard copies hopefully available by the end of the year. This should be a nice companion piece to Clans of the Aslan and details Hlakhoi sector, a conflict region in the heart of Aslan space.
If Clans was theory, Hierate is practice as I used many of the design systems from the earlier book in developing this latest one. In fact, I have a blog entry over on Planet Mongoose describing the writing of this book.
Hierate was probably may hardest book so far but I’m extremely happy with how this came out. I had a chance to work closely on this with Natalie Miller, who did a bang-up job with layout. In many, many instances she was able to transform a nebulous idea into a great-looking illustration or diagram. And amazingly, she was able to make a really sweet map of clan territories in Hlakhoi—something I believed was an Impossible (16+) task, given just the sheer number of clan alliances.
